About Us

The Daffodil Society of Minnesota (DSM) was founded February 27, 1977, by eight people with serious cases of “Yellow Fever” — a love of the flower Daffodil. The original objective of the DSM still applies: To promote the growing and enjoyment of daffodils in Minnesota.

On January 14, 2008, The Daffodil Society of Minnesota incorporated as a nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of Minnesota (Chapter 317A).

The Daffodil Society of Minnesota, Inc. is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to The DSM are deductible under section 170 of the Code. Tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts may be made under section 2055, 2106, or 2522 of the Code. The DSM is classified as a Public Charity under the Code section 509(a)(2).

Today, the Daffodil Society of Minnesota remains a group of gardeners with “Yellow Fever.” We are affiliated with other daffodil-lovers around the country, through the American Daffodil Society. And there are similar groups in many other countries where daffodils are grown.

DSM members always have a lot of fun, meetings include great food, and we are always learning things about our favorite flower. And we enjoy sharing what we have learned! We have several members who regularly teach classes on daffodils throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan area. See: Speakers Bureau.

Through the years, DSM members have been involved in a number of projects, a few of which include:

  • In the early 1980’s, DSM maintained a daffodil display garden at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. The Arboretum later disbanded the garden and the bulbs were naturalized throughout the property. It is very possible that some of the daffodils enjoyed each spring along the entry road are descendants of those original bulbs.
  • In 1980, DSM members assisted the Minnesota Chapter of the American Cancer Society with their very first sale of daffodils as a fundraiser.
  • In 1999, DSM members participated in planting approximately 1200 bulbs at the Roseville Arboretum.
  • In addition to our annual Spring Daffodil Show, DSM members have held ‘non-flower daffodil shows.’ Members were able to show off their collections of daffodil-motif items.
